Why Shotsense?

We offer fresh, photojournalistic, natural style with a tinge of fashion and signature what-we-love-to-call ‘AHAH!’-style of photography & post processing. We love to be challenged with new directions and ideas and we totally love clients who are IN for the unexpected… ahah! Of course, most importantly, our clients love the all-natural lovely service that we render.

Ari & Lis love photography. Photography, to us, is like poetry. We are based in Singapore but we definitely go places.

About Azlie Ari Allias

(it feels weird writing as a third person but I am going to do so anyways…)

Ari does more commercial work in the lines of architecture, corporate events, business portraits, editorials and advertisements. Ari is currently a photojournalist for Garmin Int’l and has worked for Google, Reebok, Royal Sporting House, Crocs, Singapore government affiliated organisations such as MOE, DSTA / DSO National Labs, JSA just to name a few.

Ari is a regular for blogshop owners for product photography and currently in pursuit of a revolution in changing the business portraits & profiles of financial advisors and realty agents. Ari also offers a unique package for realty/ property agents for photographing properties for sale and rent which is becoming more popular with agents looking for a fresh vibe in their websites or printing ads. He is also engaged as the preferred free-agent, resident photographer for many event companies, production studios and website designers.

Ari has worked with film and digital with the use of many different systems such as Nikon, Canon & Pentax. His favourite quotes on photography when asked, Ari will recycle the usual you heard elsewhere or with his own answers. Here are some of his favourites:-

“Having a top notch dSLR camera and equipment does not make one a photographer. It makes one a dSLR and equipment owner.”
“Better equipment helps photographers, but does not help in taking better photographs.”
“It always comes in this order of importance: Photographer, Lens, Camera… but in business terms, it’s: Photographer, Rates.”
“Please do not ask me what equipment I will be using. I might bring with me a Hasselblad today, a Leica tomorrow or a Leaf next week…”
“Having brought only ONE flashgun in my bag does not mean I do not know how to strobe.”
when asked if he is a professional photographer… “if it means doing it full time and getting commissioned for it, I think so… but I prefer to be labelled as a full-time photographer instead.”
when asked about what he is good at…”Singing!… oh you meant on photography… basically People & Buildings.”
when asked how much… “what’s your budget?”
do you have a studio?… “the world is my studio…” (this will normally follow with an awkward silence and I’ll laugh it off and say) “seriously…” (then silence and more confused look) “I am a natural light shooter…”
“I am neither expensive nor cheap. Please do not label me as either.”
“the photographer is as expensive as the value of the client…” similarly “the photographer is as expensive as the value of his work…” similarly “photographers are as cheap as they can be…”

Ari loves to shoot with old school manual prime lenses and is a self-proclaimed natural light shooter. Apart from photography, Ari loves music and enjoys good mind intriguing films. Ari blogs at moojikulous.com which took over the now defunct azliealias.com and is the main contributor/ writer of Shotsense Photography Blog.

About Lis Samsudin

Lis is the divine marketing and project specialist behind Shotsense Photography apart from being the co-photographer for corporate and private events. Lis manages all the official/ scheduling/ accounting/ project management/ client matters. She is dedicated in getting what she wants for the client and will get what she wants for the client. Or for anyone. Lis contributed a great deal in the business’ expansion both in creative and business aspect, venturing into sponsorships, media awareness and other branches of the Shotsense branding such as provision of FMCG materials which is in works with major labels all around Singapore.

Lis does more portraiture and strobing works as a photographer and is also the acting make-up artist for our photoshoots. She is a macro fan as well as an avid macro photographer.

Professionally, she is an ITIL certified professional with a major in IT. Before she joined Shotsense as a managing project director, she had HP (Hewlett Packard), NCS (National Computer Systems), Singtel and Abacus under her belt which she served well in middle management.

One who is a dedicated multi-tasker, as ironical as it sounded, Lis could manage tasks like an octopus on steroids. She is always a firm believer of do first talk later then show the others what one can do!

Apart from photography and work, Lis is a fan of good books and good movies. A loving mum of 2 kids, who loves to cook for the family and makes sure everything is in place or shall I say MUST be in place.

Currently both of us Ari & Lis are enjoying the use of the Nikon system. Our home studio is our lair for experimental works and bench sized product photography as well as a place for make-up artists to gather and have their models photographed. The office cum home is equipped with our cosy 32-inch LCD for presentation, phone, fax, a laptop for tethering works and a desktop driven by an i5 system with a substantial amount of TBs of HDD. Of course, not forgetting the few toys laying around the place thanks to our 2 kids.

So, technically they are… artistic, creative, romantic, sexy, passionate, lovable, cool, composed, articulate, intellectual, flamboyant…. bombastic, fantastic, elastic, lipstick, dipstick, erratic, exotic,………… seriously, must we be serious even in our page about ourselves?
